 Since childhood J-Hope has been interested in dancing. He even joined an underground dance team called Neuron and won various dance competitions.

His name has also been widely heard especially since winning first place in a national competition in 2008. In 2009, he also won a dance competition held by JYP Entertainment.

Dancing motivated him to learn to sing and rap. He also auditioned for agencies, one of which was JYP Entertainment but didn't make it through.

When he was in grade 1 in high school, J-Hope again tried out for an audition and passed to join Bg Hit Entertainment. After undergoing training, he successfully debuted with other BTS members to bring No More Dream.

But previously he had the opportunity to be a rapper in Jo Kwon's song Animal, which was released in 2012.
He also has a solo mixtape called Hope World as well as a solo single titled Daydream, Airplane and Chicken Noodle Soup which was released with Becky G.
